Future Medical Students

Opening the Door to Medical School

Fulfilling the dream of a medical school education can be challenging, but the UCR/UCLA Thomas Haider Program in Biomedical Sciences can help. The program provides a unique entrance to UCLA's David Geffen School of Medicine towards teh goal of expanding and diversifying the region's physician workforce, improve health care delivery programs and improve the health of medically underserved populations.

Who is Eligible?

The program is open to UCR students who have completed at least two years (six academic quarters) of undergraduate time at UCR. Regardless of whether you enrolled at UCR as a freshman, transferred in later, or already have your degree, you may apply to the program.

What's the Advantage?

The Haider program guarantees 24 UCR students admission into the Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. With some 200-250 annual applicants, that is a 10-to-1 ratio of applicants to seats, compared to a 45 or 50-to-1 ratio for students applying for the remaining 121 seats at the school.

How Does it Work?

Students in the Haider program complete their first two years of education at UCR. The courses are identical to those taken by students at UCLA. After two years, Haider students move to UCLA and complete the rest of their education there, receiving their M.D. from the Geffen School of Medicine.
