Research Facilities

Analytical Chemistry Instrumentation Facility

The Analytical Chemistry Instrumentation Facility is a campus wide facility housed in the Department of Chemistry and consists of:

  • Mass spectrometry
  • Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy
  • Optical spectroscopy
  • X-ray crystallography.

A staff of six, including a faculty director and a staff of five spectroscopists manage and maintain the various facilities.

Departmental Facilities

Students have access to a variety of research equipment. In addition to common lab equipment, shared research facilities include:

  • Flow cytometer.
  • High-performance liquid chromatography systems.
  • Computerized gel scanners and phosphorimager.
  • Preparative ultracentrifuges.
  • Scintillation and gamma ray counters.
  • Walk-in cold rooms.
  • Tissue culture facilities.
  • Automatic x-ray film processor and darkroom.
  • Confocal microscope.
  • Microinjection apparatus.
  • Electromagnetic field generators.
  • Microelectrodes.

Libraries

The UCR Libraries are comprised of the main library, Rivera, and three branches: the Science Library, the Music Library and the Media Library. The libraries provide access to more than 2,500,000 volumes, 36,370 electronic journals, 7,655 print serial subscriptions, and 2.1 million microformats. The Libraries is a member of the U.S. Federal Depository Library System and one of the 116 members of the prestigious Association of Research Libraries (ARL), representing the largest research libraries in the United States and Canada.

Central Facility for Advanced Microscopy and Microanalysis

Located in the Bourns Engineering building, the Central Facility for Advanced Microscopy and Microanalysis (CFAMM) is a universal research, service, and consulting laboratory for microscopic characterization of organic and inorganic materials, biological tissue and minerals applying electron beam techniques.

The CFAMM was established in January 1996 by the UC Riverside administration with the support of the National Science Foundation. The facility utilizes state-of-the-art equipment and its personnel conducts research and provides collaborative assistance, training and service to faculty and students at UC Riverside as well as to clients in industry, government, commerce, forensics and academia.

Center for Glial-Neuronal Interactions

Center for Glial-Neuronal Interactions (CGNI) brings together diverse researchers who apply a broad array of experimental approaches to identify and to therapeutically manipulate the neuronal and glial interactions essential for normal brain and spinal cord function.
